The Youth went into the game with Sandhurst not knowing what to expect, this being their first game of the season.
We found ourselves against a good, physical team, looking to end our perfect start to the season.
The first 20 minutes were even, we created a couple of chances, but we were losing the midfield battle. We struck first, from right back, Taylor received the ball up in his own half, left their left winger and left back eating his dust, and produced a perfect cross for Mack to finish first time, coming in from the left wing. Great play. Two minutes later Sandhurst hit back - our defence didn't clear the ball properly and Sandhurst hit a 30 yard screamer in the top corner, nothing Jack could do about the first goal he's conceded this season. The rest of the first half was well contested, with Sandhurst being quite physical.
The second half was a different story entirely, with Leo in midfield, our boys played with more aggression and energy and dominated the game. We were soon in front. Cobey went past a defender in the box, it would have been a penalty but the ref sensibly played on as the ball fell to Oli Cannon to despatch, we finally had our noses in front. Soon after Oli gave us a cushion, capitalising on a defensive mistake and finishing again. Sandhurst were a man down by this point and the Youth made them pay, the vast majority of the game played in their half with some lovely passing and moving from the Youth. In the last minute of the game, Oli grabbed his hat-trick after some good work from Nathan. Home and dry.
A very pleasing team performance - we showed our strength, with defence, midfield and attack all doing their jobs and working together. Man of the match was tough with everyone playing well, the solid Bojan a close second to Nathan who was superb throughout, maximum effort and always a danger with his clever passing and skills.
The perfect start continues, let's see how long we can keep this going!
