Burghfield FC Buffaloes vs FC Bracknell U14 Colts

Andrew Wall

Colts push high flying Burghfield all the way.

The U14 Colts went away to high flying Burghfield looking to cause an upset and very nearly did.
The Colts despite recent results have started to play some really good football in their last few games and had to use that to try and overcome a vastly physically superior Burghfield side.
Colts goalie Dom Wall kept the team in the game for the first 15mins with a string of saves that meant Burghfield were getting frustrated and when the Colts won a free kick on the edge of the Burghfield box ever improving Ethan Callaway rifled the kick into the top corner for the Colts to take a 1-0 lead against the run of the play.
This sparked Burghfield into a constant onslaught and they scored 4 goals in quick succession, piling forward with the wind behind them and using their physical advantage well.
But the Colts weren't finished and on a rare foray up the pitch the ball broke to Arin Bhardwaj who lobbed the Burghfield goalie from outside the box for his first Colts goal to make it 4-2 at half-time.
The Colts who have worked hard on their fitness, and team spirit over recent months started the second half as they finished the first with the team pushing forward at every opportunity and pinning Burghfield in their own half.
Tyler White, Calum Little and various combinations of Quinn Gow, Alan Bak and Arin Bhardwaj kept Burghfield at bay with some fierce tackling and resilience.
Captain Freddie O'Shea with Vincent Nyame, Kyle Woolerton, Leo Carter and Chris Oliver rotating in midfield never gave up running and pushing forward searching for goals
Man of the Match Hayden Mills put in a very physical shift both in midfield and upfront and nearly scored a third from outside the box for the Colts to set up a good finish.
In the end the Colts just couldn't find a third and Burghfield broke away to score a fifth with five minutes to go to take the points.
The Colts received many compliments from the opposition players and management about their effort and toughness epitomised by striker Dylan Veck playing despite being advised to allow his foot to heal for a further 2 weeks.
A pulsating game played in a fantastic spirit and refereed superbly.
